Lesson 1 – An Introduction to the Mastermind
The Mastermind is the phenomena that Napoleon Hill describes what develops when two or more minds are joined together in a harmonious and purposeful environment. Another way of saying it is, “Mind Chemistry”.
Henry Ford and Andrew Carnegie are both examples of men who used the “mastermind” concept to leverage their own abilities with the many skilled abilities of the people in their mastermind groups.
Hill states a theory that ideas are vibrations, similar to your 2.4 GHz phone, but the ideas are picked up by your mind. Sometimes these ideas are picked up in accident, sometimes with focused attention, but the ideas are most effectively captured by the individual when a group of people working on a project with a common purpose and with harmony are focused on the project together.
“Each person in the mastermind group becomes vested with the power to contact with and gather knowledge through the subconscious minds of all the other members of the group. This power becomes immediately noticeable having the effect of stimulating the mind to a higher rate of vibration and otherwise evidencing itself in the form of a more vivid imagination and the consciousness of what appears to be a sixth sense. It is through this sixth sense that new ideas will flash into the mind. These ideas take on the nature and form of the subject dominating the mind of the individual. If the entire group has met for the purpose of discussing a given subject ideas concerning that subject will come pouring into the minds of all present as if an outside influence were dictating them. The minds of those participating in the mastermind become like magnets attracting ideas and thoughts of the most highly organized and practical nature from no one knows where.”
This is just the beginning of Lesson 1. Some people may say this is like the modern day term of “brainstorming”. However, in the context that Hill states, he sees this as not a single session, but as a continuous process that you must develop in an organization. For example, he sees it as a process that Henry Ford used to gather thoughts on improvements for vehicles. Today General Electric is following the coat tails of Motorola and using the 6 Sigma method for quality. This is another tool that attempts to build a mastermind, but in my opinion the complexities of 6 Sigma have under-minded the value of the group mastermind. I like the saying, “Keep it kid-simple”.
I will continue adding more thoughts and ideas on Lesson 1 – An Introduction to the Mastermind. If you have any comments feel free to post them.
